SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 259
WHEREAS, The 2004-2005 University of Texas at Dallas chess
team claimed first place at the 50th Pan American Intercollegiate
Team Chess Championship, securing the team's second consecutive
victory at this prestigious tournament; and
WHEREAS, Formerly coached by Dr. Tim Redman, director
of the University of Texas at Dallas chess program, the team is
currently under the tutelage of international master
Rade Milovanovic and is continuing to build on the legacy of
success established during its nine-year existence; and
WHEREAS, To reclaim its title, the team outplayed a talented
University of Maryland, Baltimore County, team; members of the
2004-2005 University of Texas at Dallas chess team are international
masters Peter Vavrak, Magesh Chandran Panchanathan, and
Amon Simutowe, and FIDE masters Andrei Zaremba and Michal Kujovic;
and
WHEREAS, By winning the Pan American Intercollegiate Team
Chess Championship, these dedicated students have established
themselves as the best college team in North, South, and
Central America; moreover, the team members' commitment to the
game of chess has motivated them to provide chess instruction to
high school students in the Dallas Independent School District; and
WHEREAS, Reaching the pinnacle of success in one's chosen
vocation or avocation is a rewarding and memorable experience,
and the members of the University of Texas at Dallas chess team
may take great pride in continuing to uphold their school's
reputation for excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby congratulate Coach Rade Milovanovic and
The University of Texas at Dallas chess team for winning the
Pan American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship and commend
them for this outstanding accomplishment; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for Coach Milovanovic and the team as an expression of
high regard from the Texas Senate.

R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The 2004-2005 chess team from The University of
Texas at Dallas captured first place at the prestigious 50th Pan
American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship, and this
outstanding achievement provides a perfect opportunity to honor the
myriad accomplishments of this exceptional group; and
WHEREAS, After winning this top tournament in 2003, the UTD
chess team outwitted the University of Maryland, Baltimore County,
as well as the Stanford and Yale University teams, to claim for the
second consecutive year the Pan American championship, which is
held annually in December to determine the best college team in the
Americas; and
WHEREAS, Originally coached by Dr. Tim Redman, director of
the UTD chess program, and now led by coach and international master
Rade Milovanovic, the UTD chess team has enjoyed remarkable success
over its nine-year history; and
WHEREAS, Members of the 2004-2005 UTD chess team include
international masters Peter Vavrak, Magesh Chandran Panchanathan,
and Amon Simutowe, and FIDE masters Andrei Zaremba and Michal
Kujovic; and
WHEREAS, These exemplary chess players have also generously
donated their time and considerable talents to the Dallas
Independent School District, providing chess instruction and
assisting DISD high school students in chess tournaments; and
WHEREAS, The UTD chess team has demonstrated the requisite
mental toughness and competitive excellence necessary to succeed
not only in chess but also in the classroom, and it is most
appropriate to pay tribute to its worthy members at this time; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Coach Rade Milovanovic and The
University of Texas at Dallas chess team for winning the Pan
American Intercollegiate Team Chess Championship and extend to them
sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Coach Milovanovic and the members of the team as an
expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
